The distinguishing characteristic of bare-root trees is the manner in which they are harvested. They are dug from the field and shipped sans any soil or dirt covering the roots. Some of the bare-root trees available at the Fast Growing Trees Nursery include apple trees, dogwoods, willows, cherry trees and raspberry bushes.
The great thing about such plants is the gel-like residue called Terrasorb that coats their roots. It helps retain the inherent moisture of the plant making it more suitable to ship long distance.
Once a bare-root plant is delivered to your doorstep, you need to ensure that it is planted ASAP. If, for any reason this is not possible, then simply store the plant in a cool area. The main idea is to keep the roots moist.
You can also use the ‘heal-in’ method where coating the roots with a covering of soil does the trick. Take care to keep the stem devoid of any soil. For more detailed directions on taking care of your bare-root trees, view the checklist by clicking here.
At the Fast Growing Trees Nursery we have beautiful plants that can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. A Fast Growing bare-root tree, if taken care of properly, is sure to add charm and character to your garden, regardless of the area you live in.
